First Conviction under Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021

In a first, Amroha District Judge (POSCO Court) provided five years of imprisonment and imposed Rupees 40,000 fine under Uttar Pradersh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021 (Hereinafter Anti-conversion Law).
This is said to be first case under anti-conversion law in which punishment is given after the passing of the Act of 2021.
Facts of the Case:
As per Special public prosecutor (Pocso Act), Amroha court, Basant Singh Saini, a boy, by profession driver used to visit the nursery owned by a minor girl. The accused, now convicted, eloped with the girl, on the pretext that he is from same religion. He changed the name to manipulate the girl. It was alleged that boy compelled the girl to change the religion and marry him.
Verdict:
Court awarded five years imprisonment and fine as well.
