The Supreme Court Rejected the Petition Demanding that President Draupadi Murmu Inaugurate the new Parliament House

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking the inauguration of the newly constructed Parliament House by the President of India.

Advocate CR Jaya Sukin filed a PIL in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Lok Sabha Secretariat to inaugurate the new Parliament House by President Draupadi Murmu instead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice PS Narasimha, while hearing the matter, said that the petitioner has no locus to file such a petition and the petitioner should be grateful to the court that no cost was imposed on him for filing the petition. Cost) has not been imposed.

Although the petitioner requested to withdraw his petition, the court did not allow it.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta opposed the withdrawal of the petition saying that it would give liberty to the petitioner to approach the High Court in the matter.

The court ordered to dismiss the petition.

The petition said that the statement issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on May 18 and the invitation issued by the Lok Sabha Secretary General for the opening ceremony were in violation of the Constitution.

Citing Article 79 of the Constitution of India, the petitioner argued that the President is an integral part of Parliament and cannot be kept away from the inauguration ceremony.

The petitioner had demanded from the court that a direction be issued to the Lok Sabha Secretariat that the new Parliament House should be inaugurated by the President of India.

It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the new Parliament House on 28 May. The opposition has been continuously demanding that the new Parliament building should be inaugurated by the President.
