Justice SV Bhatti appointed Chief Justice of Kerala High Court, Central Government issued notification

The Central Government on Friday notified the appointment of Kerala High Court Acting Chief Justice SV Bhatti as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.

According to the notification issued by the Union Law Ministry “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Shri Sarasa Venkatanarayana Bhatti of the High Court of Kerala as Chief Justice. His appointment will be effective from the date of assumption of charge.

The Supreme Court collegium comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice KM Joseph had recommended the appointment of Justice SV Bhatti as Chief Justice on 19 April 2023.

Significantly, on 22 April 2023, the Center had issued a notification appointing Justice Bhatti as the Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.

On 12 April 2013, Justice Bhatti was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and was subsequently appointed as a Judge of the Hyderabad Bench of the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh High Court in June 2014. He was transferred to the Kerala High Court on 19 March 2019.

Justice Bhatti was born on 6 May 1962. He graduated in Law from Jagadguru Renukacharya College, Bangalore. Prior to his appointment as a judge, Justice Bhatti practiced as an advocate in the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
