Justice RD Dhanuka will be the new Chief Justice of Bombay High Court, Central Government issued notification
The Central Government on Friday approved the appointment of Justice RD Dhanuka as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
The Supreme Court collegium comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice KM Joseph had recommended the appointment of Justice Dhanuka as the Chief Justice on April 19, 2023.

According to a notification issued by the Union Law Ministry, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Shri Ramesh Devkinandan Dhanuka of the Bombay High Court as Chief Justice. His appointment will be effective from the date of assumption of charge.”
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal gave this information by tweeting on Friday.
It is worth mentioning that Justice Dhanuka’s tenure will be very short and he will remain in this post only for 4 days as he is going to retire on 30th May.
Born in 1961, Justice Dhanuka was educated in Mumbai. After graduating in law, Justice Dhanuka practiced in the chambers of his father, retired Justice D R Dhanuka, from 1985 to 1990, until his elevation as a judge.
Justice Dhanuka was elevated as a judge of the Bombay High Court on 23 January 2012.
