About Rights for Peace
Rights for Peace is a London-based international human rights organisation, supporting groups in fragile states to break cycles of injustice that lead to mass violence. Rights for Peace works in collaboration with local organisations, supporting human rights initiatives to prevent mass atrocities by targeting underlying injustices, and human rights violations based on identity.
The Role
Rights for Peace is looking for a key member for our small team, in particular, to provide support to our project on enhancing access to reparation for conflict-related sexual violence in Sudan in the current context. Tasks will include research, drafting, social media posts, and supporting the organisation of the launch of our Study on the Needs of and Opportunities for Reparation for Survivors of CRSV in Sudan, which will take place in The Hague or Geneva (travel may be included).
Functions include:
• Identify opportunities to share our findings and recommendations with relevant international bodies based on our research and findings (e.g. UN human rights treaty bodies, Human Rights Council, Special Mandates as well as the Office of the Special Rep on the Prevention of Genocide or ICC;
• Support the organization of the launch of the Sudan Reparations Study in The Hague or Geneva in terms of messaging, strategy and logistics (travel may be included),
• Research, drafting, and editing of reports, briefings and other publications for different target audiences,
• Liaise with team members and partners in Sudan and South Sudan to coordinate messaging, identifying speakers and co-sponsors for events, as well as recommendations, asks and survivor visibility, etc.
• Organise side events or other means of engaging with delegates and civil society to advance our advocacy,
• Draft blog posts (for our news page) and post on social media to amplify our findings and advance our advocacy.
The incumbent would ideally have:
• An Excellent Undergraduate degree and/ or a Master’s degree in a relevant subject (e.g. International
Human Rights Law)
• Prior experience working in international human rights or equivalent experience
• Excellent English writing, editing and presentation skills
• Abilityto adapt language and messages for different audiences
• Ability to articulate key messages in short statements (e.g. Twitter)
• A strong policy and writing interest (e.g. publication in student journals, blogs, and social media)
• Knowledge or experience of international human rights mechanisms, transitional justice and/or conflict prevention / mass atrocity prevention;
• The ability to liaise and work collaboratively with other team members and partners;
Terms
Internship / junior consultancy for approx. 4-6 weeks. Rates depend on experience and location. Starting from £96 to £110 per day(£25,344 – 29,040 pro rata).
In principle, this role is London or UK based. The incumbent will report to the Director and work in close liaison with the Sudan Legal Adviser.
