[International Legal Jobs] Legal Analyst, Economic Law and Policy, Ontario

Tasks

The consultant’s tasks will vary by project. They will at a minimum include:

Conducting primary and secondary research of tax laws and regulations.

Drafting legal briefs to the required standard.

Supporting capacity building activities.

Specifically, the consultant will support senior IGF staff in: Providing legal analysis on mining taxation issues. The consultant will support with the analysis of relevant tax laws and regulations, as well as international legal instruments, with the aim of providing high quality advice to government officials. Developing reports and publications. The consultant will research legal and regulatory aspects of mining and/or international tax law, develop examples and illustrations, and analyze court cases where relevant. A few examples of the type of publications produced to date are available here.Capacity building. The consultant will support the design and delivery of training workshops on issues to do with mining and/or international tax law. Specifically, the consultant will contribute to the preparation of workshop materials. Depending on the skills and experience of the consultant, they may also be asked to help facilitate training sessions.

Profile

Undergraduate or master’s degree in law from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Specialization in international taxation, or mining disciplines are strongly encouragedStrong writing skills.

Proven academic or professional experience undertaking primary and secondary research in relation to international and/or mining tax law. High integrity and ability to work independently to meet tight deadlines.

Driven and motivated to contribute to a world where people and the planet thrive.

Languages: although usually in English, the work may require professional fluency in French, Spanish Portuguese, or other languages. Consultants with language skills are encouraged to apply.

Duration

Consultants are typically recruited for 20 to 40 day-periods. Contracts include specific deliverables and deadlines.

Remuneration

Commensurate with skills, experience and location.

Location

The work will most often be done remotely. Travel opportunities will be examined when relevant.
