  • Salary: London from £54,750 per annum, Brussels from €4 746 gross per month
  • Location: Brussels, London
  • Contract Type: Indefinite
  • Hours: Full Time

About the role

As Lawyer*, Litigation Specialist, Governance & Legal Services, you will join ClientEarth’s newly created Governance & Legal Services Department.

We are in-house legal team driven to enable ClientEarth to deliver innovative legal strategies while managing risk. The team currently consists of 11 staff in six of ClientEarth’s offices who provide expertise and support globally across Litigation, Governance, Risk & Compliance, and Legal Services.

We are looking to recruit a Lawyer who can provide deep, practical knowledge and litigation experience conducting or managing a large portfolio of strategic litigation, preferably across different state, national, supra-national, and international jurisdictions.

Main Duties

  • Provides legal advice to ClientEarth colleagues, including advising on litigation case management, legal strategies, and litigation risks
  • Supports case teams on legal privilege, legal procedure, managing legal and financial risks
  • Promotes best practices and excellence across ClientEarth’s portfolio of litigation
  • Supports tracking and managing relationships with external lawyers and legal pro bono network

Role requirements

  • Law degree or equivalent
  • Currently qualified legal practitioner in any common law or civil law jurisdiction
  • Substantial litigation experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage or oversee a large litigation portfolio
  • Strong general legal skills across the relevant areas (including legal procedure, access to justice, legal ethics, and professional compliance)
  • Fluent (CEFR level C2) in English
