About Organizational Context
The International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) and the T.M.C. Asser Instituut (University of Amsterdam) are looking for a Joint Research Fellow to strengthen research agendas on the legal responses to violent extremism and terrorism, with particular focus on (inter)national criminal justice responses. ICCT and the Asser Institute have a strong research track-record in the fields of (international) criminal justice, religiously-motivated violent extremism, (counter-)terrorism and human rights and aim to broaden this expertise into other forms of extremism, notably right-wing extremism.
Essential Qualifications
A PhD or equivalent expertise in international (human rights) law, criminal law, or a closely related field of research to meet the requirements of this post
• Several years (2-5) of relevant work experience related to counter-terrorism and violent extremism
• Work experience in a policy-orientated environment is highly desired
• General expertise in legal responses to terrorism/violent extremism, especially in the field of (international) criminal justice
• Proven record of academic publications is considered an asset
• Proven record in acquisition/fundraising is highly desired
• Experience in coordination of research and project management are considered an asset
• Unimpeachable personal and professional integrity
• Fluency in English is required
• Strong communicator, proactive behaviour, innovative mindset, collaborative spirit, hands-on mentality
• Eligible to work in the Netherlands, however visa sponsorship could be considered for suitably qualified candidates
Terms and Conditions
Expected salary scale
o Scale 11-12
o Bruto salary range: €3.503-€4.551
• Two-years contract, renewable
• Benefits: 8% holiday pay and 8,3% end of year bonus, leading pension scheme, commuting allowance, remote working allowance, generous leave policies
• Expected starting date
o 1 April 2023
