EWS Reservation and Constitutional Validity of 103rd Amendment Act: Highlights

Hearing on petitions to challenge the Constitutional validity of 103rd Constitution (Amendment) Act, 2019 is going on in SupremeCourt.
The above amendment provides 10% quota to economically weaker sections of the Society.
As per EWS notification:
“The persons belonging to EWSs who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs shall get 10 per cent reservation in direct recruitment in civil posts and services in the Government of India,”
-Supreme Court decided to refer the case to a Constitutional Bench 5th August, 2019.
-CJI UU Lalit started hearing the petitions since 13th September 2022.
-One of the key issues is related with ‘Indra Sawhney & Others vs Union of India case, 1992’. (50% ceiling).
