Appointments and elevations should be made “solely on the basis of merit”: AIBA Chairman
While addressing the media, Adish C. Aggarwala, chairman of the All India Bar Association, suggested that court sessions be videotaped and that the retirement age for judges in the supreme court, high courts and the lower judiciary be increased.
In addition, he recommended against appointing retired judges to any commissions or tribunals. Aggarwala opposed the chief justices of high courts being selected from the high courts of other states when it came to the appointment of judges to high courts.
“Chief justices coming from other states may be not in a position to make just and proper administrative decisions, as they are usually unaware of the local factors,” said Mr. Aggarwala.
