Job Profile: Legal Officer, Legal Affairs DPPA-SPM, United Nations 

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law is required. A first level university degree in law, in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in law, including legal analysis, research and writing is required.

Experience in drafting substantial opinions or conclusions, court decisions, reports or other documents is desirable.

Experience in a national or international judicial setting is desirable.

Experience working on human rights and due process issues, in particular in the context of counter-terrorism or sanctions, is desirable.

Experience in dealing with the policies, procedures and operations of the United Nations or a similar international organization is desirable.

Experience assisting a senior official in the United Nations is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
