Relief from the Supreme Court to the doctor accused of “love jihad”
The Supreme Court on Thursday granted interim protection from arrest to Dr Abdul Qadir, accused of raping a Hindu woman on the pretext of marriage. The victim, a resident of Moradabad, alleged ‘love jihad’ against the accused doctor and threatened her life.
A vacation bench of Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Rajesh Bindal has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government seeking response on Dr. Abdul Qadir’s petition. The next hearing of the case will be after four weeks. The bench also directed that the accused shall not enter Moradabad till the next date of hearing. No one will contact the complainant either directly or indirectly. Counsel for the petitioner said, it is a case of consensual relationship.
The alleged victim and the petitioner went to several places but she filed the case to extort money. The petitioner has several bills including payments made for hotel stay. The petitioner has moved the apex court challenging the May 10 Allahabad High Court order. The High Court had refused to grant anticipatory bail to the accused doctor.
The petitioner claimed that he had come in contact with the woman, who was working as a nurse, while pursuing Master of Surgery in a private college in Moradabad. The two started liking each other and started living together in 2019. He has claimed that the complainant was aware of his religion. It has also been claimed that the complainant knew about his marital status. Not only this, the complainant has met the family members including his wife and daughter.
