Job Profile: Research Assistant, Center for WorkLife Law, Summer 2023 Position

Hours: 40 hours/week

Hiring Salary Range: $18.07/hr

ABOUT THE CENTER FOR WORKLIFE LAW:

The Center for WorkLife Law, at the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco, is an advocacy and research organization that seeks to advance gender and racial equity at work and in education. Founded by Director Joan C. Williams in 1997, WorkLife Law pioneered the area of law that protects working caregivers from discrimination and has been a national leader in the field ever since.

THE ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research Assistant will work under the supervision of the Research Director to evaluate the performance evaluations of a large organization. The project will begin with a thorough training in the way gender and racial bias plays out in performance evaluations. The majority of the work entails coding comments from performance evaluations for the presence of bias. Once comments are coded, the work will pivot to insight generation and analysis.

This position is paid. Work is conducted remotely.

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in progress or completed, particularly in a field of study relevant to the research being conducted such as political science, social work, sociology, psychology, gender and/or race studies, etc.
  • Two years of research or experience in a professional setting preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience reading academic material and keeping accurate and detailed records and notes
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ability to pick up other software and applications quickly
  • Willingness and desire to support the work of others
  • A commitment to WLL’s values
  • Reliable access to the internet via a computer
  • Experience with quantitative data management is a plus
