The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday filed a fresh charge sheet against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

Tytler is accused of instigating and inciting a mob that gathered in Pul Bangash area of Delhi on November 1, 1984, following which three Sikhs were killed.

Filing the charge sheet before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in the Rouse Avenue District Court, the CBI said it had registered an instant case in connection with the Pul Bangash incident of violence on November 22, 2005.

In this incident, Gurudwara Pul Bangash in Azad Market was burnt and three Sikhs were killed, including arson and looting of shops around Bada Hindu Rao.

The CBI has charged Tytler with murder and rioting under sections of the IPC.

The court will consider the chargesheet filed against Tytler on June 2.

It is noteworthy that after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her bodyguards on October 31, 1984, at least 3000 people were killed in the violent riots in Delhi, most of whom were from the Sikh community.

The Government of India constituted the Justice Nanavati Commission in the year 2000 to investigate the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Based on the commission’s report, the Home Ministry had directed the CBI to investigate Tytler and others.
