International Legal Jobs: Legal consultant, Basel Convention, United Nations Environment Programme

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in international law and/or environmental affairs. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

• At least seven years of work experience in the field of implementation and enforcement of multilateral environmental agreements, including the Basel Convention is required;

• At least five years of experience in the field of hazardous wastes management, development of legal mechanisms and measures, or national reporting is required, as they relate to multilateral environmental agreements, in particular the Basel Convention.

Languages

• Fluency in English is required (oral and written) and fluency in Spanish and French is desirable.
