Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail to Former Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Kumar Jain for Treatment

The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim medical bail to former Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Kumar Jain, who has been in jail for over a year in a money laundering case.

A bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice PS Narasimha granted Jain interim bail till July 11 and allowed him to undergo treatment at a private hospital.

The bench was hearing a bail plea filed by Jain in a money laundering case.

While granting bail to Jain, the court directed that he will present all the documents related to the treatment while on bail before the court.

The court has also directed Jain not to tamper with any evidence related to the case while on bail and not to leave Delhi without permission of the court.

The next hearing of the matter will be on July 10.

In this case, on May 18, the court had sought response from the Enforcement Directorate on Jain’s bail plea.

Significantly, Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Kumar Jain was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate in May 2022 in a money laundering case, since then he is in jail.

The CBI had registered a case against Jain under sections 13(e) to 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 after preliminary investigation.

After the trial court and later the Delhi High Court rejected his bail plea, Jain filed a petition for bail before the Supreme Court.
