‘If You Have Money For Advertisement, Why Not For Rapid Rail Corridor (RRTS)’ – Supreme Court To Delhi Government
The Supreme Court on Monday reprimanded the Aam Aadmi Party government of Delhi. Not only this, the court even asked the Kejriwal government to give details of the expenditure incurred on advertisements in the three financial years. Actually, this matter is related to the construction of Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) reported amarujala.
The AAP government had expressed its inability to provide funds for its construction in the Supreme Court itself. However, the Supreme Court surrounded the AAP government regarding this.
The construction of RRTS in Delhi would have made it easier to connect Delhi to Rajasthan and Haryana by road. However, the Delhi government did not provide funds for this. On this, a bench of Justice SK Kaul and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia directed the AAP government to provide an affidavit with information on the calculation of funds within two weeks.
The counsel for the Delhi government told a two-judge bench that there was paucity of funds and expressed its inability to extend financial help. On this, the Supreme Court said, “You want us to know where did you spend the amount? All funds for advertising will be spent for this project. You want to order like this? Do you want that?”
The Hon’ble bench observed, “The Delhi government has expressed its inability to provide funds for the ‘common project’. As the lack of funds is a hindrance in this project. Therefore, we ask the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi to file an affidavit giving the details of the money spent for the advertisement as this project is of national importance. In this, the details of the previous financial years should be given.”
